PHYSICS
The workshop is designed for new and experienced teachers. The experienced teachers have an opportunity to experience "what's new" and to share their expertise with the new teacher. Lesson plans will be developed to include the details of content and time allotment. The plans will involve textbook selection, classroom mechanics, and techniques for maximizing success. The comprehensive laboratory component will include: strategies, technologies, building labs, shortcuts, etc. The most challenging topics of AP instruction will be discussed. Each participant receives a CD that contains AP exams, rubrics, computer technology and a multitude of labs. Participants will discuss the most recent AP Exam.
Day One
We start the day by learning about the landscape of the particular course that you are teaching (There are 4 AP Physics courses that could be offered). After that make sure everyone knows exactly what needs to be taught for their particular course. Next we learn all about the AP exam. We learn about the format, the terminology and the secret meaning behind the words used on the test. We then learn how to grade the exam while learning about the most common mistakes and how to maximize the points that you would earn for an answer. We will discuss textbooks, lab equipment, software and many other supplements to the course.
Day Two
The bulk of this day is spent mapping out your course for the entire year. We will plan what to do on a daily bases for the entire year. We will also be sharing best practices and talking in general terms about methods for success. We will go over the homework for the day.
Day Three
The bulk of this day is used to learn about the various labs that should be performed in the course. We will work out the details of the first 6 or 7 labs that must be done to fulfill the requirements of the course. We will go over the homework for the day.
Day Four
On our final day we will cover the final 6 or 7 labs that must be done to fulfill the requirements of the course. Each participant will explain or demonstrate a particular lab which with they have had success. We will go over the homework for the day. A tremendous amount of materials will be distributed including lab write-ups, AP Problems, Solutions, demos, Textbooks, and much more.
